On October 19th at approximately 9:30 p.m. deputies
responded to Brooks Point Apartments off Wimpy Mill Rd regarding a
reported stabbing. Upon arrival deputies made contact with the victim,
Jonathan E. Mull (34) of Jasper, Georgia, at the entrance to the
apartment complex. Mull had lacerations to his shoulder and a puncture
wound to his lower back.
Deputies learned that there had been a brief domestic altercation,
involving custody transfer of children, in front of the apartment
complex. Mull and his girlfriend, Michelle Saye, were next to their
vehicle when Mull was stabbed. Mull immediately got into the vehicle
with Saye and her children and they drove to the entrance of the complex
where they called 911.
Investigators were called to the scene and after multiple interviews,
determined there was a dispute between Mull, Saye, Saye’s
mother-in-law and Saye’s estranged husband. Ms. Martha Merck (54), who
lives across the hall from Saye’s mother-in-law, somehow inserted
herself into the altercation and stabbed Mull. Investigators located the
knife they believe was used in the altercation, in Merck’s apartment.
The knife appeared to have been cleaned prior to deputies arriving at
her apartment. The knife was submitted to the state crime lab for
forensic analysis.
Mull was transported by air to Atlanta Medical Center but his
injuries were later determined to be none life threatening. Mull was
released from the hospital on October 22nd.
Merck admitted to stabbing Mull and was charged with aggravated
assault. Merck is being held at the Lumpkin County Detention Center with
a bond set at $20,100.
