“Man Sentenced to Twenty Years for Child Molestation”

On March 28th and following a jury trial with a guilty verdict, Superior Court Judge Murphy Miller, handed down a twenty year sentence for Melvin Leon Burson Jr.(34) of Dahlonega. Burson was found guilty of one count of child molestation and one count of cruelty to children stemming from a report filed with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office in August of 2006.

During the investigation it was determined the incident occurred in 2005 when the female victim was nine years old. Investigators executed a search warrant for Burson and his home and arrested him for the offenses of child molestation and cruelty to children.

For the offense of child molestation Burson received a twenty year sentence with fourteen to be served in the confinement of the Georgia Department of Corrections and the remaining balance to be served on probation, which included the condition that Burson was banned from the Enotah Circuit. For the offense of cruelty to children Burson received five years confinement to run concurrent with the child molestation sentence.
